Calling all Librarians
3 May 2024What is 1Lib1Ref?
Imagine a World where Every Librarian Added One More Reference to Wikipedia
Twice per year, #1Lib1Ref — abbreviated for one librarian, one reference — calls on librarians around the world, and anyone who has a passion for free knowledge, to add missing references to articles on Wikipedia. Here in the South Pacific #1Lib1Ref runs from 15 May to 5 June 2024.
Researchers and readers use Wikipedia as one of the first trustworthy stops for accurate and unbiased information. Our goal is to add at least one reference to Wikipedia! Any citation to a reliable source is a benefit to Wikipedia readers worldwide.
The #1Lib1Ref campaign is hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation and supported by the Wikipedia Library Team and Wikimedia Affiliates around the world. New Zealand is working with Australia to get the word out.
If you are interested in running an event, or need more information to be involved, we would love to hear from you at info@wikimedia.nz.
Hold a #1Lib1Ref event at your library
During #1Lib1Ref, librarians and library assistants often hold an event to participate over morning tea! To organise an event at your library, talk to us about how to make your event a success
Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand has funding available for catering. If you would like to apply for funding please contact info@wikimedia.nz.
Not a Librarian?
#1Lib1Ref has grown to include archivists, professors, researchers, and Wikimedia volunteer editors interested in finding a unique way to bring about change on Wikipedia!
