WANZ Business Planning Jan/Feb 2026 in Auckland
Our Business Planning Day will be held on Saturday 31 January 2026 in Auckland. We will be staying at the Adina Hotel for the meeting and our board accommodation.
We will be gathering Sunday morning for an edit-a-thon and invite all Auckland Wikipedians to join us. Please reach out to Dianne on dianne@wikimedia.nz with editing topic ideas.
2026 WikiCon Wellington
2026 WikiCon Wellington will be held on Saturday 2 – Sunday 3 May 2026. The conference will begin informally on Friday 1 May from 1.00pm for a tour, followed by drinks and nibbles at Bay Plaza Hotel. We have an accommodation deal at the Bay Plaza Hotel, please contact Dianne if you need more information. Please plan your travel to arrive by lunchtime Friday 1 May, leaving at the end of day Sunday 3 May. If you would like to help with the conference, please let us know.
Partnerships, events and grants
We have received expressions of interest and applications for Wikipedian in Residence roles for next year, and we are unsure we will have further funding to support more applications at this time. We will also be seeking applications for financial support to attend future Wikimedia Foundation events, including the 2026 ESEAP Conference in Taiwan from 15–17 May. We recommend that you apply to ESEAP for a scholarship to attend in the first instance.
Outreach Plan
We have begun to develop an Outreach Plan which we plan to put into action in the next few weeks. We are seeking opportunities to speak and present, and to run aligned events to grow our movement. We would love to hear from you if you have ideas in this space.
Wiki Science Competition — Australia and NZ combined
We will be working with Australia on a joint Wiki Science Competition. The first meeting has been held with the WMAU and WANZ paid teams, and Mike and Siobhan were on the call. Ali (WMAU) and Sophie (WANZ) will lead, as promotion of the event will be critical to its success. If you would like to be involved in any way, please let us know.
